Amanda Powell - Corporate Counsel for Alberici Group

Amanda Powell - Corporate Counsel for Alberici Group

What started as summer employment ultimately became Amanda’s career. She was on summer break during her second year in college and was searching for temporary employment. “I found two jobs at the same time,” remarked Amanda. “I worked at Alberici during the day and waitressed at a country club on evenings and weekends.”

Before she had even applied for the position, she knew the perception of Alberici in the public eye was of a great company. Amanda was eventually offered a full-time position in the Legal Department. She puts her Communications and Law degrees to use every day. “I always wanted to be a writer of some sort, and my grandfather, as long as I can remember, has always told me I should be a lawyer,” Amanda said. “Enjoying writing and reading and working in the legal department is the perfect fit for me."

Emily Korsch - Project Specialist for Vertegy, An Alberici Enterprise

Emily Korsch - Project Specialist for Vertegy, An Alberici Enterprise

Emily joined Alberici in 2006 after graduating from Washington University in St. Louis. After completing the company’s training program for incoming engineers, Emily went to work on the Holcim Ste. Genevieve project. There, she was responsible for coordinating the structural steel purchase orders for the largest single kiln cement facility in the world. “Working at Holcim made me really appreciate Alberici,” Emily said. “There were a lot of really high caliber people on the jobsite. The level of thoroughness, a strong commitment to the work - Alberici has a great work culture.”

Today, Emily is a Project Specialist with the Alberici owned subsidiary, Vertegy, a full service sustainability consulting firm. Emily assists project teams in meeting their LEED goals. She enjoys the opportunity to be the lead contact for her clients with the support of the organization behind her.

Emily grew up in northern Minnesota around horses. She shared that passion with others when she ran the equestrian program at a summer camp in Illinois. Her mother is an administrator and educator, and her father owns his own pharmacy.

Since starting with Alberici, Emily has taken up a new hobby: triathlons. “The main parallel between triathlons and work is attitude,” Emily said. “When I started at Alberici I met people that got me interested in triathlons and supported me, but it was on me to actually do it. I did my own research, found out where to go and then I just did it. It was the same with construction. Even though starting off out of college I didn’t have a construction background, I made up my mind to do it.”

Born and raised in Curitiba Brazil, Leticia experienced life in a city that was later recognized as one of the “15 Greenest Cities in the World.” This fact is certainly fitting with Leticia’s LEED AP credentials.

Joining Alberici in 2005, Leticia has focused on providing preconstruction services for the building and healthcare markets. “I like all aspects of preconstruction,” Leticia said. “From design through bidding, everything we do translates into a better project and in the end, a happier client. Alberici provides a great opportunity for me to use and develop my skills.”

Leticia, a structural engineer, grew up in a family of engineers. Both parents, one grandparent and her husband are all engineers. “Still a huge topic at the dinner table,” Leticia noted.

Leticia is a member of the St. Louis Rowing club. In addition to rowing on Creve Coeur Lake and reading, Leticia and her family love to travel. “With friends and family living all over the world, our children have been traveling since they were very little,” Leticia said. “It is our favorite thing to do together.”

Ken DeBrecht - Project Manager for Alberici Constructors, Inc.

Ken’s career in construction started at an early age, performing trade work while homebuilding with his father. After finishing his degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University, Ken began his professional career in Construction Management. In 2006, Ken joined Alberici. Since then he has had significant roles on major projects.

When asked what brought Ken to Alberici he responded, “Alberici has a caring for their employees that I have not found with other employers. Alberici asks a lot from their employees, but the executives and management acknowledge the efforts you give and truly appreciate them.”

Ken grew up in Houston, Texas and Evergreen, Colorado with his older sister. When Ken is not on the project site, he makes time for family and friends. “I enjoy staying active in several activities. I have competed in several half marathons and just completed my first triathlon in Bismarck, North Dakota. While I enjoy the competition, I especially enjoy running and biking with friends and being able to enjoy the outdoors with them.”

He went from having no idea what he wanted to be growing up to earning his B.S. in Civil Engineering at Fairmont State College and his M.S. in Construction Management at Michigan State University. Omar explained that a very good first impression is what brought him to Alberici.

Since joining the company, Omar has enjoyed steady career growth advancing from Estimator to Assistant Project Manager. When asked what he likes the most about his job, Omar says, “It never gets dull because every new project is a new challenge.” Additionally, Omar holds a LEED Accredited Professional certification.

Omar grew up with five younger siblings in Banjul, The Gambia, West Africa and describes his home as having a tropical climate with plenty of white sandy beaches. Omar explains that he likes living for the moment and considers himself so lucky that he must be in a perpetual dream.

One of Earl’s passions is learning. So when an acquaintance informed him that Alberici was hiring, he did his homework to learn about what opportunities existed within the company. Earl explained, “I was impressed with what I found. I made the decision to apply because I knew I would have the opportunity to work on many different projects and this would help me grow and develop as a professional.” Earl joined Alberici as a project engineer in 2005.

Earl obtained his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech. While completing his degree, he had the opportunity to study abroad in France. While there, he visited Spain, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Holland and the Czech Republic. Earl and his wife spent their honeymoon in Spain.

While Earl’s dream job is playing professional soccer in Europe, he enjoys his career in construction. “I get to interact with many different people," he said. "I can visually see the progress being made on a daily basis; no two construction projects are exactly the same so you are constantly being challenged.” Earl is looking forward to gaining more experience in the field and taking on more responsibility. One day he hopes to work on the other end of the business to see things from the start of obtaining the contracts.

Earl was a Big Brother through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. He would like to leave a legacy of helping those who are in need and would like to be thought of as hard-working, generous and fair.
Caitlin Huber - Project Engineer for Alberici Constructors, Inc.

Caitlin Huber - Project Engineer for Alberici Constructors, Inc.

“I love the people I work with! They make coming to work every day not like work.” That is how Caitlin describes her experience at Alberici. She determined during the interview for an internship that Alberici would be a good fit. “The fact that they are a large company...but at the same time close-knit made my decision obvious,” she said.

Caitlin was midway through her junior year in college pursuing a finance degree when the construction bug bit. She decided that she no longer wanted to work in finance like her dad and uncle, and she didn’t want to be stuck at a desk. Caitlin wanted something more hands-on and blueprint reading grabbed her attention. When her counselor suggested the construction industry, the rest was history. Caitlin obtained her B.A. in Construction Management from Southeast Missouri State.

About herself, Caitlin mentions, “I love my family and friends, love to travel, reading, working out and a good sale!” Her dream job would be traveling the world. Caitlin’s passion for travel fits well with her career in construction. After completing Alberici’s on the job training for project engineers in St. Louis, she was assigned to work out of the Atlanta office supporting three water treatment projects. Caitlin loves Atlanta and enjoys her new surroundings with Gracie, her Maltese.

Lyndsey has been with Alberici since 2005, but the company has been a part of her life for much longer. Lyndsey’s father, Dan, a project director, has worked for Alberici since 1979. “I was brought up being a part of Alberici, either through family events or Saturday morning meetings in the office,” she said.

Lyndsey earned her Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Missouri at St. Louis and remains passionate about education. “A strong education allows us to do anything we put our minds to,” she said. “I believe that everyone should take the opportunity to attend classes when possible.” This same belief in the potential of a good education motivated Lyndsey to pursue a Master’s degree in Business Administration at Webster University. Her goal is to use her degree to drive her career to a higher level with greater leadership. “Having an advanced degree to support my efforts is invaluable," she said.

Brad interacts with all levels of Alberici employees, from interns to field employees to corporate executives. He sees the diverse makeup of employees as a real asset to the company. “The people here bring many diverse experiences, it makes Alberici an extremely well-rounded company,” Brad said. “These varying past experiences allow Alberici to strengthen and redevelop our processes…it’s the process of continuous improvement.”

Brad’s life outside Alberici is filled with sports and other activities. He is on a number of teams including hockey, soccer, volleyball, softball and golf. Brad spends his family vacations waterskiing and wakeboarding at Lake Norfork in Arkansas every year. His love of sports blends with community service through his volunteer work for the Special Olympics. One day, Brad would like to run clinics for children with disabilities.

Brad brings his competitive nature to his work. He enjoys the everyday challenges at work and as a result has seen his role in the company significantly expand. “They will keep giving an employee new and increasingly difficult tasks until you tell them to stop,” Brad jokes. “I really enjoy how no two days are alike.”
Sherry Shaw - Senior Accountant for Alberici Group

Sherry Shaw - Senior Accountant for Alberici Group

As a young girl growing up near Lake of the Ozarks, Sherry's ambition was to be a teacher or a veterinarian. When she went to college, her interests shifted towards accounting. Upon earning her Business Administration degree, she decided to move to St. Louis, where Alberici was her first choice. After learning about the complexity of construction accounting, Sherry was a little intimidated. “I remember being told it was the most intricate type of accounting,” she said, “but I viewed it as an opportunity to take on a greater challenge and learn something new.”

Sherry advises others to not let a lack of experience in the construction industry deter them from pursuing a career at Alberici. “Everyone here is very helpful and willing to assist newcomers in learning the ropes and developing their knowledge. Constantly learning something new at Alberici keeps me interested and challenged.”

Now settled in St. Louis, Sherry enjoys the convenience and culture available in the city and especially the people she works with. “It’s like a second family for me since I don’t have family here.”
