At Alberici, our interns work on a variety of projects in a number of markets (including Building, Energy, Healthcare, Heavy Industrial, Safety, Structural Steel, Water/Wastewater, as well as in Detailing, Estimating, and in Marketing) so it is hard to nail down a typical day because they are anything but typical.
A standard day would include project staff & owner/subcontractor meetings, walking the project site, checking on the status of materials ordered, working on submittals, RFI’s, Corrective Action Reports, etc.
Adam Gacioch, A Project Engineer who spent two summers in the internship program, detailed a typical day working in our Healthcare market:
- 6:45-7:15: Check and respond to e-mails, voicemails, questions, etc.
- 7:15-7:45: Alberici project staff meeting
- 7:45-8:00: Fill out timesheets and payroll information for Alberici carpenters
- 8:00-9:30: Weekly owner/subcontractor project meeting
- 9:30-10:30: Walk the project site
- 10:30-11:30: Visit patient mock-up rooms that I was in charge of building to check on the status of the rooms. Answer questions that the tradesmen have.
- 11:30-12:00: Check and respond to e-mails. Check on the status of materials I ordered for the mock-up to make sure they are still tracking correctly.
- 12:00-12:30: Lunch
- 12:30-1:00: Coordinate mock-up scheduling with subcontractors. Discuss mock-up issues with the architect.
- 1:00-2:00: Subcontractor weekly work planning meeting.
- 2:00-3:00: Help project manager to spread general condition costs out for the rest of the job.
- 3:00-3:30: Walk project site. Check on status of steel erector to see how many pieces they erected today. Compare their current productivity to the productivity required by the contract.
- 3:30-4:15: Last visit to the mock-up to check on today’s progress and plan tomorrow’s schedule.
- 4:15-4:30: Check and respond to e-mails. Resolve any outstanding issues.
