City of Atlanta - General Wastewater Pump Station Improvements
In 2001 WWPS and the City of Atlanta were the proud recipients of the Marvin M Black Excellence in Partnering Award for the General Wastewater Pump Station Improvements Project. The awarding of the General Pump Stations Improvement Project brought many of the same team members back together to provide additional services at five of the City’s 14 pump stations.
Challenging the team early in the project, at the first progress meeting the City alerted the Contractor to an approach adjustment at two of the pump stations, which would basically define a complete new scope of work at those sites. The project team successfully met the demand placed on them to build a complete, cost-loaded schedule for the job as originally planned, only to immediately revise it for the approach adjustment, while preparing an estimate for the changed scope, and signing up subcontractors and vendors.
Including the approach adjustment, the scope of work includes installation of new wet well, 12-inch force main, new submersible pumps, valves, pipe, valve vaults, flow meters, new parshall flumes, slide gates, wiring and conduit replacement, and installation of four bar screens. Bypass pumping to facilitate construction as well as extensive road repairs are involved.
