Twin City Hospital - Hospital Addition and Renovation
Serving as the Design-Builder for Twin City Hospital in Dennison, Ohio, Alberici has made a big impact on the community of 3,000. The $11.8 million project involves a three-story 45,000 SF addition to replace the hospital's current operations. The existing 49,000 SF hospital was re-developed as administrative space.
The new and old buildings are connected at the first and second levels, ensuring efficient patient flow. Departments relocated to the addition include; laboratory, cardiology, pharmacy, radiology, emergency department, and operating rooms.
The existing hospital, built in 1912, has undergone several upgrades. In August of 1995, the Board of Directors decided that further upgrades were unfeasible and requested assistance in developing a Facility Master Plan. After a detailed selection process, Alberici was awarded the Master Planning phase of the project. Upon review of the recommendations, the Board of Directors agreed with the findings and because of our outstanding performance on the Master Plan, awarded Alberici a design-build contract to build the addition.
Winter weather created a challenge to the schedule. In February 2008, the project experienced 10 weather days out of 21 workable days due to rain, snow and ice. A detailed recovery plan was implemented in response to the delays. The project also had to overcome a shortage of manpower in the region for the hospital. Rephasing the work and coordinating with subcontractors the Alberici team overcame both of these challenges, completing the project under budget and ahead of schedule.
